Foster Care Bags to Benefit D.A. Blodgett-St. Johns

June 17, 2021
Several times a year Van Eerden partners with our own Kristin Huyser in her initiatives to benefit various charities in and around the Grand Rapids Michigan area.

In keeping with our ongoing giving initiatives, this Spring Van Eerden Trucking, chose to partner with D.A. Blodgett – St John’s in their work with children in foster care.

Kristin headed up the operation with her friend (and fellow Van Eerden co-worker) Angie, and together, they assembled 8 Care Bags for children that get placed with a foster family.

These 8 bags contain an outfit, pajamas, sweatshirt, socks, underwear, blanket, toy, shampoo, soap, comb/brush, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush and floss.

Children placed in foster care often have to leave their home unexpectedly and do not get to take their personal items, so these bags are a welcome component that will help with day to day necessities.

About Van Eerden Giving Projects

Multiple times a year Van Eerden Trucking partners with organizations and charities to help those in need. Each project starts with several meetings with Kristin, in which we discuss prospective charities, financial budget and the potential time commitments. Generally, Kristin heads up every one of these projects for Van Eerden. In each circumstance we entrust her with facilitating the projects success because she has an absolute heart for others, and always delivers.

In the past we’ve had the opportunity to work with some great organizations like the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, the the ALS Association and even Toys for Tots. In fact Toys for Tots has become an annual fixture around the Christmas season. It’s a great way for truck driving families to get involved in one of the ongoing giving projects that Van Eerden is doing.

About Kristin

Kristin has been with Van Eerden for over 24 years. In fact she started at Van Eerden in 1997, right out of College. Although she left momentarily for 5 years to start a family, gradually she came back to work full-time with us as her children got older.

She currently takes care of a multitude of accounting and payroll oriented tasks at Van Eerden and provides the company and staff with focus and care in everything she does.

In addition to heading up our company giving projects, Kristin also adopts some projects on her own (apart from Van Eerden). As if we don’t keep her busy enough, she still finds time outside of the office to impact our community in a productive and positive way.

If you’re curious how you might be able to help and you’d like to get involved in some of the work that Van Eerden Trucking does, then feel free to reach out to Kristin to see what’s coming up next.
